This is the coolest nightlight ever…, September 27, 2011
This review is from: Boon Glo Nightlight with Portable Balls, White (Baby Product)
I’m decorating my nursery in mid-century modern design and needed a space-age nightlight to set the mood. Being that most modern furniture and decor is way over priced, I was pleasantly surprised to receive this light being much bigger than expected. The glow balls are removable and similar to a very thick ping pong ball, so I’m going to have to be careful that my dog doesn’t get a hold of one of the balls because he would crunch it in two seconds, but I’ve had a toddler test out the light and after dropping them a few times I wasn’t worried that they would damage with casual use by a child.
The light allows you to set it on random mode which changes colors, just white, or selecting any of the available colors which is slick. The balls charge very quickly and seem to last longer than 30 minutes as advertised. Just be aware that these glow balls aren’t super bright when charged…they’re similar to any glow in the dark plastic toy, but kids so far have loved them.
On a side note, when I purchase this light I thought the stems were removable similar to holding a funky flashlight, but it’s just the balls that pop in and out.
Overall, I love this light so far and it’s definitely unique!

I purchased this night light for my son who just turned 4 and has spontaneously developed a fear of the dark. This is the best light ever. You can adjust the setting on the base to cycle through all of the colors or choose just one color to light up. When you turn off the light the three removable balls remain glowing. Just enough light to comfort your little one. Since two of my sons share a room they enjoy hiding the glowing balls, then turning off the lights to seek them. My 1 year old son enjoys walking around the room holding the balls and returning them. The brightest setting is good for reading to my little one as we rock. We enjoy the red setting which is the darkest and calmest setting for just before lights out. This light is wonderful! The modern design was exactly what I have been looking for in a kids room light since my first son was born 13 years ago. I am so glad I found this one. At first I thought the price was just a little high for a night light, but it turns out it was worth it!

This is a fantastic toy and a great price. My 5 month old twins love it. Great for teething, lights up, easy to press button, and plays 3 songs. Loud enough to hear, but not overly annoying. No off button, just plays when pressed.

My five-month-old son started noticing this toy around 5 weeks. The high-contrast handle and lights and music caught and held his attention like nothing else at that age. Once he started swiping at things with his hands, he was able to move the ball spinner and seemed to enjoy seeing his effect on the toy, as well as watching and hearing the balls spin around. As he’s grown more coordinated, he is using this toy even more, and can now deliberately move the beads, teethe on the handle, spin the balls, and push the buttons to make music and lights come on. This inexpensive toy looks so simple, but it has so many uses for your little one. I like the bright colors, and the five different tunes it plays with coordinating light-up keys are of nice sound quality. This is our favorite post-bottle-morning-laptime toy, and I recently bought a second one to take with us when we are out visiting. I looked at several other brands of similar toys and believe this one offers the most, developmentally.

As the description notes, make sure you have 4 D batteries, I bought more in case the machine dies (while my daughter is using it and not having backup is not a good thing), or else the elephant will not work. I had them on hand when I received the toy. Removing it from the box and putting it together did not take long. I carefully wiped off the elephant with a nonbleach disinfectant wipe and also cleaned the balls carefully with soapy warm water. You never know what type of germs are at the factory, warehouse, packing, you name it.
I had a concern about the unit since my daughter has a fear of the blow dryer. If I blow dry my hair in the same room with her she gets upset from the noise. The elephant has a loud noise like a blow dryer since it has to suck and blow the balls. Keep in mind it might not be as high of a pitch as a blow dryer but it is rather loud. I cannot talk to my daughter when the `blower’ of the elephant is running it is that loud. If I am playing with her she seems OK with the sound, tolerates it since she is more interested in trying to figure out where the balls are coming from and how to get them back into the elephant. She also has figured out, accidentally, that if you touch the elephant’s left hand it turns on the unit (blower). That has scared her a few times. After playing with it for a few weeks she has figured out how to operate it but does not seem that interested in it for a long time. Plus, the sound is loud that I only let her play with it during the morning/day so it does not upset her at night. I tried to let her play with it after dinner one evening but she is usually cranky then and did not like the sound.
All in all, it is really cute, colorful, and oddly enough has a small footprint. I thought it was going to be a lot bigger than it is but it is easy to store in the corner of my daughter’s room with the balls in it. There is a power off button so you do not have to worry about hitting the hand and the balls blowing. Besides being loud, I worry if the balls get lost how I can replace them. I have wood floors and when the light balls hit it they go flying everywhere! I fear them getting thrown behind a piece of furniture and I can’t retrieve it. Again, if you do not mind spending the money on the D batteries and the loud noise I think your child/children will find this playful. However, if they are like my daughter, it will not keep their interest for a long period of time.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program(What’s this?)
My toddler adores this toy. My wife and I can’t understand why.
For the first few days he used the balls as they are supposed to be used, but they soon became lost. Other balls of a similar size do not work, probably due to slight differences in weight or circumference.
Despite the missing balls, he still likes the music, which is surprising because you can barely hear the music over the loud fan used to pop the now missing balls.
When working correctly, the toy pops many of the balls across the room. The batteries have to be almost new or else the ball merely floats on top of the nose. The noise form the fan is very annoying.
This seems to be one of those toys that children like and parents don’t.

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:44 Mins
The Playskool Elefun Busy Ball Popper comes from a long line of Playskool ball poppers. Stop. Try to say that sentence five times fast! They all have one thing in common, and that is that kids, mainly toddlers, love them. The Elefun Busy Ball Popper is also lots of fun, but while it looks cooler than some of the others – it doesn’t quite bring the smiles as the Playskool Explore and Grow Busy Ball Popper.
A few notes -
- Requires 4 D batteries
- Does not have an adjustable volume – so it only one setting, “LOUD”
- The trunk on the elephant rotates. When the balls “pop” to the elephant’s right they roll into the elephants belly – where they are stored. When the balls “pop” to the elephant’s left they roll back into the trunk where the elephant blows them back up into the air (See the video).
- The ball are shot into the air using a small fan that is located near the elephant’s trunk
- Comes in two colors, blue and pink.
- Again, the design is cooler than the standard Playskool Busy Ball Popper
Final Verdict – This is a loud, but fun toy for your toddler. While our daughter prefers the standard Playskool Explore and Grow Busy Ball Popper both toys are staples of day cares throughout the USA.

My seven-month old loves playing with this toy whenever we visit the doctor’s office. He loves to manipulate the knobs and buttons and make the animals pop up. An added bonus is that this toy isn’t electronic — no batteries! I haven’t seen it in our local stores, so I’m pleased to see it for sale online.

I bought this for my 9 month old. He loves to push down the animals but I am scared he is going to get his fingers caught when he pushes down. I guess with these types of toys there is no way around it. He loves it but can’t figure out all the buttons yet. Maybe still too young. But he seems to get a kick out of the 2 sliding buttons he can push. Giggles when the animals pop up. Cute toy, great that I don’t have to buy batteries every minute. Very sturdy.

This is a great little toy for anyone with babies/toddlers in the house. Very entertaining, great for building fine motor skills, and NO BATTERIES to replace or annoying loud music.
But I did just wanted to mention there is a color variation in case it would make a difference to anyone else. Mine is green and I took a pic of it that you can see under customer images above.
